Biography
I have a multitude of passions due to my natural curiosity to learn. From being that kid who’s way too enthusiastic to answer a teacher’s questions to conducting my own research, I have always had a thirst for knowledge.
On my free time, I love to travel the world, taking pictures on my DSLR and film camera, write fiction, binge-watch shows, and organize open mic nights with my former English professors.
My path has been unconventional to say the least. I went from being a high-achieving student in high school to a college student dropout. I suppressed my passion for being a writer due to the stigma around doing it for a living. Nonetheless, I returned to college at 25, where my doors opened up for me as soon as I decided to write for my community college newspaper, El Don News, where I met and connected with prolific journalists, who inspired me and fueled my passion for writing. My time at El Don News showed me new ways for creative people to help the community.
My enduring drive to master it all has allowed me to take on editorial positions at El Don News, such as Social Media, Photography, Lifestyle, Website, and Managing Editor. In 2024, I learned how to write grants for El Don News’ 100th-anniversary art exhibition, where I marketed and promoted the event across Santa Ana, eventually reaching government officials and journalists from local media outlets such as LAist, Voice of OC, and LATaco. My work at El Don News has won First Place for Best Opinion Design, Third in Website Design (That is still being used today), Fifth Place in Social Justice Reporting, and Second Place in Best Short-form Video for Social Media at the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) and California Media Awards (CMA) ceremonies.
Since graduating from Santa Ana College, my journey continued at Long Beach State University (CSULB) in the Public Relations department while working at the Associated Students Inc. (ASI) Communications as a communications assistant. As a communications assistant, I learned firsthand how to write public relations content for press releases, internal and external communications, as well as managing over five clients.
These skills transferred over to my roles where I led as the Director of Communications in the Public Relations Student Society of America Long Beach and the Director of Research & Writing in CSULB’s nationally ranked public relations competition, the Bateman Team. And although my time at CSULB has come to a close, I am in the market for a long-lasting career in my field as I apply to graduate programs to truly master my craft.
